Patricia Castro is an associate attorney practicing criminal, immigration, and family law. Patricia joined Swanson and Warcup, but has been practicing immigration law for three years and is currently a member of the Grand Forks County Bar Association, The American Bar Association, The American Immigration Lawyers Association and State Bar Association of North Dakota.
Prior to joining Swanson and Warcup, she was an associate attorney at KPMW Law, a Staff Attorney at Legal Services of North Dakota where she was primarily charged with working on Human Trafficking and Immigration, representing both labor and sex trafficking victims in District Court and Federal Immigration Court. Additionally, she provided immigration relief to victims through VAWA Self-Petitions, F and U Visas, as well as other immigration mechanisms. Patricia also worked in juvenile matters, family law, landlord/tenant, housing discrimination, guardianship, and elder law.
Patricia is originally from Winnipeg, MB and graduated from the University of Winnipeg with her 4YR Bachelor of Arts Degree in 2014. She then went on to graduate from the University of North Dakota School of Law with a Juris Doctor in 2017. While at UND, she worked with the Grand Forks Public Defender’s Office, The Grand Forks County State’s Attorneys’ Office, as well as the University of North Dakota Title IX Office. Patricia was a member of the University of North Dakota Trial Team, both in her second and third year, where she competed in Madison, WI and Topeka, KS. She also worked in the UND School of Law Immigration Clinic, representing Asylum and VAWA Self-Petition clients in Federal Immigration Court.
In her free time, Patricia currently serves as a board member of Dakota OUTright, an LGBT non-profit organization based in Bismarck, ND, she coaches the UND Mock Trial Team, and has a kitten named Spalding.
