Daniel P. McCarthy is recognized for his expertise in immigration law.  He has over ten years experience in handling a broad range of complex immigration matters for clients, and more than twenty years experience in civil litigation.  His immigration law experience includes counseling scholars, professional, and other client on matters relating to applications for visas and permanent residency. He has an outstanding record of success in developing strategies for clients in obtaining work visas. He has directed and supervised the processing of immigration visas, both family-based and employer-based and has counseled clients on matters with the Citizenship & Immigration Services offices.

Having lived, worked, and studied in foreign countries, Dan brings a strong multicultural awareness to his practice.  Dan has served as the designated school official at the University of Texas at San Antonio for the processing of International Student visa applications. His responsibilities included ensuring institutional and individual compliance with the laws pertaining to the student visa program and he worked with international scholars. He served as the responsible officer to represent UTSA under the Exchange Visitor Program, coordinated activities of staff in the Office of International Programs, and oversaw the orientation of international students.

Board certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, Dan also has substantial experience resolving civil claims for clients involving I-9 worksite enforcement actions, personal injury, Texas Deceptive Trade Practices, contracts, and real estate. He is admitted to practice before all state courts and the United Stated District Court for the Western District of Texas. Dan is a member of the State Bar of Texas and a Sustaining Member of the College of the State Bar of Texas. He belongs to the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the San Antonio Bar Association (Immigration Section), and the Bexar County Bar Association.

Dan holds a Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University School of Law (1984) and a B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Houston (1981). He has studied abroad at Cambridge University, England, and has been an exchange student with Fukuoka Sogo Bank in Japan.
