My law practice, Brophy & Lenahan P.C., primarily practices immigration law and specializes in family-based immigration, including waivers of inadmissibility, asylum and fear-based claims, and removal/deportation defense. We work with immigrants of all backgrounds, and a key area of our practice is working with LGBT immigrants -- in fact, we have a website devoted to that area of our practice, LGBTImmigrationHelp.com. My partner, Kate Lenahan, was formerly a legal fellow for Immigration Equality in New York. You can read more about our work with LGBT immigrants in a profile from The Advocate.
I have been admitted to practice law since 2004, and immigration law has been one of my primary focuses since we founded Brophy & Lenahan in 2011. Because we are a small practice, we pride ourselves in personal attention to our clients' cases. We are not afraid of the "difficult cases." In the last few years, we have had numerous legal victories that we pride ourselves on, such as obtaining an inadmissibility waiver for a individual living with HIV based on extreme hardship to his spouse, who is also living with HIV, winning claims of withholding of removal and Convention Against Torture in Immigration Court for several detained immigrants from the Northern Triangle facing death and torture in their home countries, and successfully representing dozens of LGBT individuals whose long-term partnerships were discriminated against by the laws of the United States before the Defense of Marriage Act was struck down in 2013.
